MONDAY, APRIL 1
HARDBALL
Series premiere ★★★★
Noon, ABC ME
The New Zealand flavour of this primary school comedy, courtesy of its leading young man (Semisi Cheekam), lends it a cruisier pace than, say, Danny Katz's Little Lunch. Through the eyes of an outsider, the cut-throat world of the playground jungle is explored with deadpan humour, as Cheekam's Mikey becomes an accidental contender for the title of handball champion. Co-creators, actors Guy Edmonds and Matt Zeremes, play the gay dads of the class bully.
YOU'RE THE WORST
Double episode series final ★★★½
10.50pm, SBS Viceland
The title of this five-season-long conclusion to the torturous relationship between angst-ridden Millennials, Gretchen (Aya Cash) and Jimmy (Chris Geere) could be taken as a hint that the happy ever after that might well ruin the whole show is not in the offing. It could also be pointing to a descent into dull domesticity. "No Longer Just Us" certainly delivers more of the whacky plans and infuriating misunderstandings that drive this anti-romcom.
BAD MOTHERS
★★★
9pm, Nine
Taken none too seriously, this girlish romp through some of the downsides of motherhood (paternity puzzles, custody battles, infidelity, murder ... the usual stuff) is a bit of a laugh. At least this gang knows how to chug down a few vodka shots when the going gets tough. But the party looks like being over, with murder suspect, Anton (Daniel MacPherson), looking guilty as hell, out on bail.
