Eight police cars were called to deal with brawling passengers on a bus route which was recently suspended and then reinstated following antisocial and loutish behaviour.

The 9.35pm 3B service from Blaenau Ffestiniog to Pwllheli was disrupted on Saturday night after a fight broke out between passengers, some of whom were said to be "drunk".

The police were called and the bus stopped in Criccieth while officers dealt with the incident.

The incident sparked anger among locals, who called for action to be taken.

One said drivers should refuse to drive the buses on the late-night services, while another commented: "Disgusting behaviour. I hope they ban them from the bus now."

Arriva Bus Wales

The weekend bus service has already been blighted by "continuous anti-social behaviour" and claims that drivers have been abused and vehicles damaged.

Earlier this month, Arriva Buses Wales pulled the 9.35pm and 10.51pm services that run between the two towns, claiming some youths had jeopardised the safety of staff and other passengers by their loutish behaviour.

In a public notice to passengers, the company had said it was working with the police and Gwynedd Council to find a solution to the issues, and apologised to "genuine customers for the inconvenience".

But North Wales Live understands the service was soon reinstated after a backlash from locals and businesses who said it was the only way people could get home from work.

Gwynedd South Policing Team also pledged to work in partnership with Arriva to safeguard drivers.

Regarding Saturday's incident, North Wales Police said: "Officers were called to a report of persons fighting on the bus.

"Officers arrived and caught up with those involved and the matter has been resolved."

The Welsh Ambulance Service said they were not called to the incident.

Arriva Buses Wales has been asked to comment.
