Debate on panel due to election: Niti member
PTI | Apr 1, 2019, 01:59 ISTAHMEDABAD: VK Saraswat, member of NITI Aayog of the Government of India, said that the debate on the think tank's role is due to election time. After Narendra Modi came to power in 2014, his government scrapped the Planning Commission to establish the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog.
Saraswat on Saturday, answered media query about speculations of closing the NITI Aayog, saying that it is normal that such statements are made during elections.
"This is election time. You cannot debate on such issues," said the former DRDO chief on sidelines of the event. On March 29, Congress president Rahul Gandhi had tweeted, 'If voted to power, we will scrap the NITI Aayog.'
