As more details pour in, the number of casualties may rise. The storm hit many villages in the Bara district, situated about 128 kilometers south of Kathmandu. As per National Emergency Operation Centre, the injured are undergoing treatment at various health services.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli expressed sadness over the loss of lives and extended heartfelt condolences to the affected families.
Prime Minister’s Chief Advisor Bishnu Rimal said army personnel have been mobilised. In Mid Air Base, Katmandu; two night vision MI 17 helicopters are on standby with rescue team.
Over 100 army personnel have been deployed in the affected areas and rescue operations are underway. A sky truck is ready in Simara.
The National Emergency Operation Centre said that rescue operations would be difficult especially during night as roads are blocked.
As per the local media, majority of the deaths and the injuries during Nepal rainstorm occurred due to hits from flying objects like trees, electricity poles and tin metal roof sheets. Local officials have been trying to reach remote villages since the storm struck but operations were hindered due to night conditions on Sunday.
