GUNTUR: A physician by profession Dr Seva Kumar strongly believes that change should begin from home. He is resilient political activist who dreams of building a corruption free system by creating awareness among the general public. He has been roaming around the Guntur West assembly constituency seeking votes as he entered the political fray for the second consecutive term. Although, he secured very negligible number of votes in the last elections, Dr Seva Kumar is confident of winning the trust of the people this time.
Interestingly, Dr Seva had no money either to purchase votes or to put up expensive digital screens to carry his election campaign. Taking the support of a group of friends and well-wishers, Dr Seva Kumar is literally on his foot to knock each and every door in the constituency.
Anguished over the cartel of hospitals and diagnostic centres, Dr Seva Kumar started a diagnostic centre in the name of Service Health Organisation (SHO) soon after completing his graduation in medicine from Guntur Medical College about 20 years ago. SHO’s entry had literally rattled the diagnostic centres in the city as it slashed charges of tests by 60-70 percent. Initially, influential medical professionals tried to convince Dr Seva of the need to increase the prices. With Dr Seva sticking to his ground, they were left with no option but to bring down the charges. “The charges of clinical diagnostic tests have come down only thanks to Dr Seva. The corporate centre used to collect nearly Rs.200 two for routine diabetes test a decade ago have now charging just Rs.50,” thanked a senior citizen Venkateswara Reddy.
Curiously, the SHO lab is now packed with people coming not only to undergo tests but also to attend weekly-health awareness programmes. The Centre also offers free consultation services by the expert medical professionals during the awareness programmes. “Many expressed doubts over the survival of my centre as big people in the industry were against my idea. I could succeed with the peoples’ support. I am hopeful of repeating it even in the electoral battle,” smiles Dr Seva.
He worked in Loksatta and Aam Admi Party (AAP) but fell out after the party chiefs were reluctant to strengthen the party.
