BJP banks on Modi magic to replicate 2014 success story
Naresh Mitra | TNN | Mar 30, 2019, 05:45 ISTGuwahati: Soon after BJP president Amit Shah’s visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address election rallies in the state on Saturday.
Modi will address two rallies — at Moran under Dibrugarh parliamentary constituency and at Gohpur under Tezpur parliamentary constituency.
PM’s rally at Moran is expected at 12.50pm and at Gohpur at 2.50pm.
BJP has fielded incumbent MP, Rameswar Teli, from Dibrugarh and minister of state for education, Pallab Lochan Das, from Tezpur.
On Thursday, Shah also addressed two rallies—at Kaliabor for BJP’s ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) candidate Moni Madhab Mahanta and at Teok in Jorhat for BJP candidate and state power minister Tapan Gogoi.
“The crowd at PM rallies at Moran and Gohpur will be overwhelmingly large. Modi wave is growing strong every day. We are fighting the election on the development agenda, and the state has seen development in multiple fronts in last five years,” a BJP leader said.
On February 9, Prime Minister addressed public rallies in Guwahati, Itanagar and Agartala. BJP leaders said that an estimated four lakh people attended PM’s rally in Guwahati on February 9.
Modi kicked off the poll campaign in the state by addressing a public rally at Silchar in Barak valley on January 4.
In 2014, Modi had launched a blitzkrieg of campaigns across the state, which led to BJP’s first definitive victory in Assam — winning seven of the 14 Lok Sabha seats.
