An unidentified man died on spot after he allegedly drove an auto rickshaw while its inebriated owner was asleep on the passenger seat in Virugambakkam on Friday morning. The man was around 45 years of age

He had left his vehicle key in the slot. On Friday morning at around 8 am, a 45-year-old man started the vehicle while Zakir was still sleeping on the passengers’ seat. The man started driving towards Porur. When Zakir woke up he was shocked to see a stranger driving his vehicle.
As Zakir struggled to stop the vehicle, the man on the driver seat lost control and rammed the autorickshaw on a car coming from the opposite direction. Following this, the auto rickshaw turned upside down. The front portion of the autorickshaw was crushed in the impact.
The police noted that the man died on the spot and his identity is yet to be ascertained. Meanwhile, Zakir Hussain was rushed to the Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital where he is currently being treated.
The Pondy Bazaar Traffic Investigation police are probing the incident.
According to police, the vehicle belonged to Zakir Hussain (47) a resident of Karambakkam near Porur. On Thursday night Zakir was sleeping on the passenger seat of his autorickshaw after consuming alcohol.
