Five people inside mini van that plunged off highway

Five people were inside a mini van when it plummeted off a highway south of Rockhampton on Friday afternoon.

The van rolled near Westwood on the Capricorn Highway, about 50 kilometres south-west of Rockhampton about 4.40pm.

All five people, including a child and toddler, escaped serious injury when the van rolled on its side at the bottom of a water culvert.

A woman, aged in her mid-30s, was airlifted to Rockhampton Hospital with pelvic injuries and rib pain, but was in a stable condition.

An intensive-care paramedic and doctor were on board the RACQ Capricorn helicopter.

A primary-school-aged boy and a male toddler were taken by road to Rockhampton Hospital, along with a man in his 30s and a woman in her 50s.

The mini van crash came hours before two people were killed in a head-on collision in nearby Rockhampton.

Both drivers, a 47-year-old man from Gracemere and a 37-year-old woman from Kawana, both died at the scene.
