A bevy of top NDA leaders and a sea of supporters joined BJP president Amit Shah on Saturday as he held a roadshow before filing his nomination for the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency, currently represented by party veteran LK Advani.
The mega show of strength was a clear message to the Congress-led 'Mahagathbandhan' conveying the BJP's seemingly insurmountable political clout. This also marked Shah's plunge into the general elections from a Rajya Sabha member.
Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray, Shiromani Akali Dal chief Parkash Singh Badal, and Lok Jan Shakti president Ram Vilas Paswan took part in Shaha's roadshow in Ahmedabad. While Shah acknowledged the presence of the allies, BJP cadres made them feel important with thank-you banners put up through the entire route taken by the cavalcade.
Calling himself an ordinary party worker and a person who always preferred to stay amid the public, Shah delivered a short but impressive address. Before commencing the roadshow, he also paid floral tribute to a statue of Sardar Patel.
"I was elected as a Rajya Sabha member and went to Parliament but I always wished to remain amid my people and as an elected representative. The BJP gave me the chance by fielding me from Gandhinagar. I will carry forward the legacy of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, LK Advani and Purshottam Mavlankar who were elected from Gandhinagar in Lok Sabha polls," said the BJP president.
He said people across the nation see a great hope in Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he only can keep Indians safe. "A person who was just a chief minister of a state like Gujarat has earned such great respect. These polls are also going to be held on who will lead the nation, and reply from every corner comes unanimously for our PM Narendra Modi," Shah added.
Expressing his gratitude towards his party, he said, "If someone takes BJP out of me, the remainder will be zero. What I have contributed to the party is the same that I received from BJP."
Shah appealed voters in Gujarat to give all 26 seats of the state to PM Modi. People showered petals from both sides as he slowly moved on an open truck during the roadshow. Thousands gathered to give him compliments before the filing of nomination as members of various communities kept greeting the top BJP leader.
