KOLKATA: Another spell of thunder squall awaits the city. Met office says that conditions are favourable for spells of thundershowers from Sunday onward. But the chances of a thunderstorm is strongest on Monday. Three weather systems will be bringing in the rain.
“Right now we have a cyclonic circulation over this region and the process of heating it already on. But the conditions for the thundershower activity will materialise only when there is enough moisture incursion which is lacking right at the moment,” said GK Das, director (weather) at the Regional Meteorological Centre Kolkata.
Currently there is an anti pressure system over south Bay of Bengal. This system is expected to travel towards the central bay by Sunday. As it comes closer to the central bay, it will start injecting moisture into the land in volume, This in turn will help in formation of thunder clouds.
“That is why we are expecting the moisture incursion to increase from Sunday. Once this happens the condition will be ripe for thunderstorm activities,” added Das.
The maximum temperature at 33.8 degree Celsius on Saturday was a notcht lower that the normal mark. This might go up slightly on Sunday. But once the clouding and thunder showers activities starts it will be on the lower side of the normal mark again.
“If all the systems do not deviate from what is expected we could see thundershower activities on Sunday and Tuesday also. But the chances are brighter on Monday,” said Das.
