Ramu Bhagwat | tnn | Mar 31, 2019, 04:59 ISTNagpur: “Don’t be complacent or lax in campaign work even though we are sure of victory. Give your full participation and let us go for a win with a massive victory margin,” was the booster message to party workers given by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. He landed in the city on Saturday to review preparations for city BJP candidate Nitin Gadkari’s campaign.
Fadnavis communicated on Friday night that he will be in city for a few hours. He wanted to get detailed reports from all members of various committees from all parts of the city on the Gadkari campaign.
“On my request, he visited the central election office in Ganeshpeth since he could not make it for the inaugural of this office on Wednesday,” said campaign in-charge Sudhakar Deshmukh downplaying the crucial strategy meeting that lasted more than two hours.
All city MLAs, MLCs and heads of various committees formed for the city BJP campaign attended the meeting and read out reports of the accomplishments till now. They also reported on the level of cooperation by the allies in the campaign.
Fadnavis also held important review meetings with key workers in his constituency of South-West Nagpur and West Nagpur. He will be addressing many campaign meetings across city on April 4, 6 and 8.
“In the fruitful meeting that is bound the give boost to the campaign, Fadnavis gave useful suggestions. Like, around 60,000 workers engaged in party work should along with families exercise their vote first thing in the morning on April 11 so that they are free for work for rest of the polling day. He also exhorted party men not to be overconfident and work with full sincerity,” said Deshmukh.
Gadkari was away in Gandhinagar (Gujarat) to accompany party president Amit Shah during filing of nomination papers. By afternoon, he returned here but was not present at the Fadnavis meeting.
Meanwhile, party sources said Amit Shah’s visit to the city on May 9, the last day for campaign here, is now final. He will be addressing a public meeting on the Kutchi Visa grounds near Telephone Exchange Square in East Nagpur. The meeting is likely to start at 2pm but party leaders are confident of getting enough crowds despite the rising day temperatures.
Besides Shah, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath and senior leaders Uma Bharti and Sushma Swaraj are also likely to address meetings for Gadkari next week.
