Vadodara: A class VIII boy government primary school in Kural village was detained on Friday for allegedly raping a class I girl at the school premises in Padra taluka on March 26. The incident was reported to police on Friday after the girl fell ill and confided to her mother about the crime.

According to police, the boy took the six-year-old girl to the bathroom during recess and beat her up with a rod. He then assaulted her with a pencil in her private parts. The girl, however, remained silent on what happened in school, even after going home.

The next day she fell ill and despite her mother persistent questioning, she did not respond properly. After sometime she narrated the ordeal to her mother who immediately took her to a health centre in Vadu. After examining her, doctors at the health centre informed the police. The police then detained the boy from his home and registered a case of rape, assault and violation of Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act and Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

While the minor is undergoing treatment at SSG Hospital in Vadodara, the boy denied the charges when questioned in presence of his parents. Cops later presented him before a juvenile court and then sent him to juvenile home. Police said that they will talk to the girl in presence of counsellors once her health improves.
