Govt 'foolish' to out sat-killer secret: Congress

NEW DELHI: Congress on Saturday deployed senior leaders for an all-around attack on the government with former finance minister P Chidambaram accusing PM Narendra Modi of leading a "foolish government" that disclosed a "defence secret" of India's satellite-killer missile.
Chidambaram's attack came in the backdrop of Modi's announcement that India had demonstrated anti-satellite missile capability, describing it as a rare achievement that puts the country in an exclusive club of four space superpowers with such prowess.
"The capability to shoot down a satellite has existed for many years. A wise government will keep the capability a secret. Only a foolish government will disclose it and betray a defence secret," Chidambaram said on Twitter. The statement also read as a response to Modi's allegations that Congress had not paid attention to national security.
"Why was the announcement done in the middle of an election campaign? Only to boost the sagging fortunes of the BJP," he claimed. Congress leader Anand Sharmapointed to the deepening economic distress.
