CPM convoy attacked in Tripura, 1 arrested

Agartala: A 36-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday night for allegedly attacking a CPM convoy at Udaipur in Gomati district earlier that evening. “Tripura West MP Shankar Prasad Datta’s convoy was returning from a campaign programme when Prahlad Debnath and two others pelted stones, causing minor damage to a vehicle. No one was injured,” police said. Debnath (36) is being questioned by police and an investigation has been launched against the others. He was also accused of attacking the vehicles of BJP MLA Biplab Ghosh before the 2018 assembly election. He was a CPM member then. CPM, however, said Datta and three others were injured in Wednesday’s attack by miscreants from the ruling BJP and attributed it to lack of adequate security. tnn
