Despite a strong support from blenders, the prices of tea grades, barring good liquoring ones, declined at Kochi tea auctions, on subdued demand.
In sale no 13, the market for CTC dust was lower at ₹1-3 a kg. Of the 9.82 lakh kg on offer, medium varieties were irregular and sometimes lower. Of this, 85 per cent was sold. The average price realised was also low at ₹122.95/kg compared to last week’s ₹124.05.
The market remained barely steady for orthodox dust and the quantity on offer was 12,000 kg. In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties fetched ₹120-160, mediums quoted ₹95-132 and plain grades stood at ₹88-98.
The quantity on offer in leaf category was 1.29 lakh kg and the market for Nilgiri brokens, whole leaf and Fannings barely remained steady and tended to ease. In CTC leaf, the market for high priced brokens and Fannings was lower.
Injipara/Venniyar SFD topped at ₹163/kg in dust varieties, while Kodanad STGFOP emerged the topper in leaf grades at ₹306.
