Lured for sex, tourists dupedin Calangute

CALANGUTE: Police arrested five persons on Thursday for allegedly cheating some tourists.

Sources said Calangute police received a complaint from some tourists that they were lured to an alleged dance bar, at Candolim, on Wednesday night, with the promise of being provided sex workers.


The tourists paid Rs 16,000 to two men identified as Shyam Bharati and Johnson. Later, when they were at the nightclub, they were restrained, assaulted, threatened, restrained from leaving the premises and Rs 12,000 was extorted from them by swiping their cards.


After the tourists lodged a complaint at Calangute police station, police reached the nightclub and took the five persons into custody.


Calangute police said, Bharati, who is among the arrested, is a history-sheeter.
