Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M.K. Stalin on Thursday met Archbishop of Madurai and president of Tamil Nadu Bishops’ Council Antony Pappusamy.

Sources from the Archbishop’s office said that Mr. Stalin sought support for the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance in the upcoming parliamentary elections so as to defeat the BJP-led government at the Centre, “which had proven to be detrimental to the welfare of the minorities in the country.”

The alliance’s candidate for Madurai parliamentary constituency, the Sahitya Akademi winning writer from Communist Party of India (Marxist) Su. Venkatesan, former Congress MLA and MP Peter Alphonse, and DMK functionaries from Madurai district were present.
