47 model code violation cases registered

A total of 47 model code of conduct violation cases have been registered so far in the district.

Speaking to reporters here on Friday, Superintendent of Polcie P Ve Arunshakthikumar said 15 MCC violation cases had been booked against AIADMK and its electoral allies and 13 against DMK and its alliance partners. The AMMK faced seven and others seven. In all, 42 cases had been registered.

Of 912 problematic anti-social elements identified in the district, 506 had executed bonds saying they would maintain extremely good conduct over the next six months and desist from all unlawful activities, particularly during elections. After conducting confidence-building meetings in 587 ‘trouble spots’, route marches were conducted in 94 places and beat marches at 1,709 locations.

A company of Indo Tibetan Border Police had been deployed in the district and additional para-military personnel would arrive shortly for strengthening security arrangements. The demand for security personnel hovered between 900 and 1,000.

“Moreover, 28 retired army officials, who had served in the rank of Junior Commissioned Officers, 220 ex-servicemen and 19 retired police officers have come forward to be part of election security arrangements,” Dr. Arunshakthikumar said.

DCP (Law and Order), Tirunelveli City, Samson said route marches were conducted in 15 places in the city. While 140 problematic elements had been identified, 80 persons executed bonds as mark of maintaining good conduct. Four persons were booked under Goondas Act.

On MCC violations, he said five cases had been registered in the city.
