In what could be an embarrassment during peak election season, Gujarat Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president and MLA Jitu Vaghani’s son was caught cheating during university examinations on Thursday. On Thursday, MJ Commerce College, affiliated to Bhavnagar University, was conducting Allowed to Keep Terms (ATKT) exams, in which several students were found copying.
The National Students Union of India (NSUI) alleged that one of the students caught cheating during the exams was Meet Jitu Vaghani but due to his political influence, the authorities did not declare his name.
Speaking with DNA about the same, Jayrajsinh Gohil, Bhavnagar District president, NSUI, said, “Meet was appearing for ATKT exam and was caught cheating. He was caught with 27 chits to be used during the exam. As soon as he was caught, the officials took him to the vice-chancellor’s office and he was not allowed to appear for the exam. However, the vice-chancellor refused to declare his name.”
“We now want his name to be declared, an inquiry to be initiated against him and a fair hearing of copying case, as per norms, to be conducted”, he further said, adding that the vice-chancellor of Bhavnagar University had taken charge of his position only recently and is hence scared of the repercussions.
