National Award-winning director Nitin Kakkar’s Notebook paints a mesmerising picture of Kashmir as the movie has been filmed in its picturesque locales.
Over the years, the region, which is popularly known as Heaven on Earth, has been one of the most desired locations for Indian filmmakers. Shakti Samanta’s Kashmir Ki Kali (1964) introduced viewers to its snow-clad mountains and breezy valleys. Post which, several classic hits have been set against its backdrop, such as Raj Kapoor’s Bobby (1973) and Mani Ratnam’s Dil Se (1998) amongst others.
Decades later, the magnificent place still adds magic to a romantic tale as seen in movies like Ayan Mukerji’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013), Vishal Bhardwaj’s Haider (2014), etc.
(A still from Notebook)
Drawing a romantic tale as beautiful as the delightful locations, Notebook is an unconventional story of two individuals — Kabir (Zaheer Iqbal) and Firdaus (Pranutan Bahl) — who fall in love despite never meeting each other.
The movie is set in 2007 when the internet was inaccessible to the locals of the Valley. Given the backdrop and remote facilities, Kabir and Firdaus’s love story begins when they start exchanging letters. It traces Kabir’s journey, who sets out on a quest to search for Firdaus and tries to reach her before she gets married to someone else. Kabir is supported by his six students, who were Firdaus’ students earlier.
The simple and beautiful love story is backed by soulful songs.
Notebook, presented by Salman Khan Films, is a Cine1 Studios Production. The film, produced by Salma Khan, Murad Khetani and Ashwin Varde, releases today.
