DHARAMSHALA: In Bakloh village of Chamba district, about 200 ration card holders are paying more than Rs 60,000 a month to get subsidized ration (food grains) from public distribution system.
Interestingly, the BJP candidate for election, Kishan Kapoor sitting cabinet minister for food and civil supplies was complained by these perturbed villagers after they got the chance to be heard about their plight.
Kapoor was on election campaign to this area when villagers met him. Villagers said that authorities closed their depot and therefore they had to go to other outlet to get this ration.
They are facing this trouble from last one year.
For every trip these residents pay rupees 300 each to hire taxi.
The old age people, widows and families with serious patients are suffering the worse.
Jitender Rana, an ex-serviceman who works in foreign lands is home to spend his holidays, presently struggling to get the ration depot open as government authorities have failed to do so despite infrastructure available in Bakloh market.
“I met the minister who is contesting elections from BJP as candidate for Member of Parliament from this region. He has assured us to get this problem resolved.” said Rana.
An 80 year old villager of Bakloh, Inder Singh with tears in his eyes and folded hands requested that he cannot move and the ration depot is about 3 KMs away and there is no one in his family to bring it for him.
“I am not financially well off and taxi takes around 300 rupees for a trip. If I fail to get ration, then I again I had to hire the cab” he says.
Tara Devi (78), a widow also said that she and other about 30 females met the cabinet minister while he was campaigning to this area for votes. “I hope that something could be done soon in this regard” she added.
Husband of Mamta Thapa (45) suffering from severe illness and getting fed from nose drips and spend extra amount for subsidized food grains has become a compulsion for her.
When contacted, Kishan Kapoor the minister and candidate for BJP said that he will assure a timely action in this regard. “People from Bakloh have met me. I will ensure a proper action at the earliest” he said
