Diocese for rooting out cybercrime
TNN | Mar 30, 2019, 04:08 ISTCoimbatore: The CSI Coimbatore Diocese has urged for multipronged steps to eliminate cyber violence against women and girls.
In the backdrop of recent sexual assault incidents in Pollachi, the diocese organized an awareness and confidence building event on cyber security and human rights in the city on Friday. About 400 men and women attended the event.
Addressing the event, Bishop Rev Timothy Ravinder drew the attention to existing deficiencies in combating cybercrime against women and urged the women to come out openly when they face sexual harassment or abuse. Asking girls to develop self-confidence, he said they should use emergency numbers of police when they are in a threat situation.
Police officers who participated in the event urged women to download the app 'kavalan.sos' for any type of emergency, while going alone, particularly during night. Within 10 minutes, police will arrive at the spot and rescue the person in distress, police said. TNN
