The action has been taken following police commissioner Satish Sharma’s orders that societies can’t stop guests from parking their vehicles inside. The issue was raised by some members in Road Safety Council meeting after which Sharma assured action.
The notices were served after police carried out a survey in areas like Vesu, VIP Road, Varachha, Punagam, Yogi Chowk, Mota Varachha. In many societies, police also got the notices banning visitors from parking inside removed.
“After orders from police commissioner, we started the drive and identified such societies. We have served them notices and got their warning boards removed,” said Sudhir Desai, deputy commissioner of police, traffic.
On-road parking in majority of the residential societies has become a major nuisance. Not only guests but also the residents in these societies are using public roads to park their vehicles, which ultimately results in traffic jam.
Traffic police is taking actions mostly in commercial areas while the unauthorised parking issue remain unaddressed in residential areas.
