Mass fuel-reduction burns to take place across Canberra

Parks services will conduct seven burn-offs over the next two days to reduce fuel load across Canberra.

The burn-off will be started by Ngunnawal elder Wally Bell at Jarramlee Nature Reserve at midday on Thursday.

A total area of 60 hectares will be burned over the two days at Jarramlee Nature Reserve, Jerrabomberra Grasslands, Gungaderra Grasslands, Dunlop Grasslands, Mulanggari Grasslands, Kama Nature Reserve and Crace Grasslands.

The ACT Parks and Conservation Service said every effort had been made to wait for weather conditions that would minimise the impact of smoke across the capital.

Information and health advice for dealing with outdoor smoke can be found by visiting the ACT Health website.

More to come.
