Schools asked to intimate seat status to officials by April 2

Kick-starting the process for admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009 in private schools, the Director of Matriculation Schools has announced that the online submission will begin from April 22.

In a circular, the director has said that in the run up to making the applications available online, the schools should take stock of the number of seats available at the entry-level classes.

“Schools have been instructed to display the number of seats available prominently on notice boards outside the campuses. This is to create awareness among parents in the areas near the school and enable them to apply to the schools of their choice for their children,” an official said.

Children who reside within 1-km radius from the school and meet the other criteria will be eligible to apply.

“Education officials in each district have been instructed to sensitise parents and address their queries about the documents they will need,” the official said.

In the 2018-19 academic year, there were over 65,000 seats in private matriculation schools across the State which had been set aside for admissions under the RTE Act.

While schools have been asked to intimate the district-level officials about the number of seats available by April 2, they will have to display the number of seats on their notice boards on April 10.

Officials from the education department said that they will be putting up details regarding the intake capacity in each school and district on their website as well. The online admission process will go on till May 18.
