NEW DELHI: The body of a woman was found hanging in a public toilet near Maa Anandamayee Marg in Govindpuri on Tuesday. The woman, who lived nearby, had left home to relieve herself. When she did not return, her family started looking for her until someone spotted her body. While the possibility of a suicide has not been ruled out, cops are also probing for foul play.
The woman’s family said she got married two years ago in Hisar, but she had returned to her parents as she was allegedly being harassed by her in-laws for dowry. Her husband had followed her back to Delhi, and was pressuring her to return with him, to which she had reluctantly agreed. “When she went missing, we called her husband, but he feigned ignorance,” said the woman’s brother-in-law. Her family suspects she was killed, which was made to look like a suicide.
The body has been sent for autopsy and police are scanning her phone for clues. A suicide note has not been found. A magisterial probe under Section 174 of the CrPC has been initiated into the death.
