Vadodara: Controversy hit Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) once again after a video of former BCCI secretary, Sanjay Patel’s birthday bash went viral in WhatsApp groups of the association. The video showed Patel and BCA secretary (in-charge), Snehal Parikh in the same hotel room along with former BCCI president N Srinivasan.
Patel was in Chennai to attend the inaugural day of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on March 23 and it his birthday too. “I attended the inaugural session of the IPL like every year. I met Srinivasan along with Niranjan Shah in Chennai. As it was my birthday, so I cut a cake in their presence,” Patel told TOI, adding that Parikh happened to be there too.

“There is nothing more to it. I don’t know why people are discussing it and floating rumours,” Patel, who dominated affairs at BCA earlier, said.

Patel was not only sacked from his post but also removed from the membership list of the association in 2015. Parikh and Patel also had bitter face off during and after the BCA polls in 2013.

While Parikh belongs to the Revival Group, Patel is from Royal Group headed by Samarjitsinh Gaekwad. Therefore, the video of Patel and Parikh together was bound to create fresh controversy in the BCA.

Slamming the members who had made the video go viral, Parikhsaid, “I went on the inaugural day of the IPL. Office-bearers of many cricket associations were discussing informally the future of cricket in context with Lodha reforms. I don’t know how Patel came there,” Parikh said.

“It was Patel’s birthday and so there was bit of celebration in my presence. There is nothing more to it as I was in that room to discuss cricketing interests of the BCA. Some persons with vested interests took a video and later made it viral,” Parikh alleged.
