Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid To Become VW Group’s Most Powerful SUV

Porsche has confirmed that a new range-topping Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid model is in the works.

During a recent interview with Evo, Porsche chief executive Oliver Blume confirmed that the new SUV is in the works and will be fitted with the same powertrain as the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid.

While it remains to be seen if Porsche will make any alterations to the powertrain before fitting it into the Cayenne, we know that the new Turbo S E-Hybrid will become the most powerful SUV from the Volkswagen Group, beating out both the Lamborghini Urus and Bentley Bentayga.

It’s been speculated in the past that the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid’s powertrain would make it into the Cayenne but such talk went unconfirmed. The Panamera and Cayenne also use different platforms and it was unclear if the powertrain would work for both.

Porsche presented the range-topping Panamera model back in September 2017. The vehicle combines a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 delivering 542 hp with an electric motor providing an additional 134 hp, giving the car a combined output of 671 hp and 626 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque. These figures allow the car to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.4 seconds before topping out at 310 km/h (192 mph). The Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid can also travel 49 km (30.4 miles) on electric power alone.

The Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid may not remain the VW Group’s most powerful SUV for long. Lamborghini is already working on a hybrid version of the Urus and will launch it later this year. There’s a chance it could use a modified version of the 4.0-liter twin-turbo hybrid V8 from the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid.
