‘GST ruins economy’

Rajya Sabha member and the DMK candidate for Thoothukudi Lok Sabha constitiency K. Kanimozhi said a government that is interested in the welfare of Tamils should be formed in the Centre.

Addressing a public meeting here on Thursday, she said that the country’s economy is in ruin after the introduction of Goods Services Tax. “Business including manufacture of groundnut candy has been affected due to the GST,” she said. “Fire cracker industries have been hit badly.”

Wages under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme is not deposited in the bank accounts properly, the DMK leader said. “Prices of commodities like petrol, diesel had gone up and it has come down only in view of polls.”

“Those who fight for justice are being shot down. If the BJP government wants Sterlite to run and protesters shot down, it is being fulfilled by the AIADMK government,” she said. The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test has deprived students of an opportunity to become doctors.

All promises such as providing jobs to one crore youngsters as road workers and 50 lakh jobs for women with the same qualification as people’s welfare workers would be fulfilled, she added.
