Navy sailor dies in firing drills onboard INS Gomati

A 21-year-old died after he suffered grievous injuries during a firing drill onboard INS Gomati, a government statement said on Thursday. A Board of has been ordered.

Mohan Raj, Seaman - First Class, suffered injuries "whilst carrying out combat weapon firing drills at sea".

"The was airlifted from the ship to the nearest naval hospital INHS Asvini, by a helicopter, however, he succumbed to his injuries," said the statement issued by the Defence Wing.

A Board of has been ordered to determine the cause of the incident, added the statement.

Mohan Raj, who hailed from Katpudi in Tamil Nadu, is survived by his parents and two siblings.
