Nagpur: A senior police inspector attached to the traffic department of city police may face charges for sending ‘objectionable’ messages to a female radio jockey, who was just asking for the phone number of the newly appointed DCP traffic Gajanan Rajmane. The incident came to fore when the radio jockey shared a screenshot of the conversation with the senior PI on her social media profile.
Commissioner of police BK Upadhyay said, “I have directed the DCP traffic to inquire into the matter thoroughly and take appropriate action.”

It is learnt that soon after the allegations surfaced the officer in question was shifted to the control room from his current charge in East Nagpur.

The conversation shared online shows the RJ initially greeting the officer, following which the senior PI asked the RJ to connect with him on video call. However, the RJ says it was nothing important to call on video, and she was just asking for the number of the newly appointed DCP. Meanwhile, the senior officer sends a message to the RJ saying, “Waiting for d most beautiful and gorgeous and intelligent and dynamic and multitasking and sensual lady,” and follows it up with, “just want to see ur beautiful face if possible.”

Speaking to TOI, the RJ said, “It is disgusting to receive such messages from a senior official of the police department. The department has been promising us safety for woman and other citizens, on other hand such police officers are working there.”

“I had just called him for professional work, to get the number of the DCP traffic for a story I was doing. But I was subjected to this messaging. I am going to fight it out because no one can speak to me or any woman in such tone,” added the RJ.

It is also learnt that some Zonal DCPs have spoken to the RJ after watching her post, speaking about ‘counselling’ the officer in question.

The senior PI is also learnt to have been involved in several such cases earlier. When the officer was posted in the Local Crime Branch (LCB) of rural police, he came under fire after sending messages to a senior zilla parishad officer late in the night. In that period, the then SP was also upset with the behaviour of the officer after he allegedly made advances towards rescued victims of an interstate sex racket busted by the police.

The RJ has submitting a written complaint to Sitabuldi police station as the incident took place in its jurisdiction.
