Expressing hope that Sumalatha would effectively raise her voice in Parliament in favour of the crisis-ridden farming community, the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) on Tuesday announced “unconditional support” to the actor who is contesting as an Independent from the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency.

A KRRS meeting was convened here to discuss issues pertaining to election activities as well to take/announce a stand on supporting Ms. Sumalatha, wife of actor-politician late M.H. Ambareesh.

Ms. Sumalatha is working for the farming community and the KRRS has extended support to her, said Suneetha Puttannaiah, wife of former Melkote legislature late K.S. Puttannaiah.

Ms. Sumalatha told presspersons: “I have got energy equal to 100 elephants following the support of the KRRS.” She expressed her displeasure over the Chief Minister for allegedly deploying intelligence wing personnel near her residence.

Three more Sumalathas enter the fray

While Independent candidate Sumalatha, wife of actor-politician late M.H. Ambareesh, is busy electioneering in the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency against her main opponent Nikhil Kumaraswamy of the Janata Dal (Secular), three women by the name Sumalatha filed nominations to contest the the election on Tuesday. Sumalatha Manje Gowda of Goravi, near K.R. Pet, Sumalatha Sidde Gowda of T.M. Hosuru, near Srirangapatna, and Sumalatha Darshan of Kanakapura in the neighbouring Ramanagaram district filed their papers as Independent candidates.

Confusing voters by fielding persons with the same names is an old trick.
