“The new Black Shark gaming device will reportedly come with ToF camera and a notch display”

Xiaomi’s Black Shark gaming-focussed brand recently rolled out Black Shark 2 – its third gaming smartphone – in China. Although the handset has all the fire-power (at least on paper), it’s kind of overshadowed by Vivo’s iQOO smartphone that comes with triple rear cameras and higher screen-to-body ratio. To counter that, Black Shark seems to be working on a new gaming smartphone (Black Shark 3?) that could come with an all-display fascia and triple rear cameras.

The vendor has patented a series of new gaming models. Xiaomi filed the patent (spotted by LetsGoDigital) back in December 2018 at the Global Design Database of the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) and was only published on March 19th, 2019. There are no fewer than 48 sketches of eight different models and Xiaomi has stated in the description: ‘the name of this design product: mobile phone (Sky)’. Sky could be the model name of the gaming device. Interestingly, a Black Shark Skywalker was spotted earlier this year on Geekbench.

Although the patented designs look similar to the previous Black Shark devices, the upcoming model could have triple rear cameras and ‘dot’ notch or a wide iPhone-like notch. Speculations are that the upcoming Black Shark smartphone could boast of an additional ToF 3D camera lens (for depth-of-effect). Moreover, it could with a higher screen-to-body ratio, owing to the cut-out instead of a bezel up top.

These are all the details we have at the moment. The patent hasn’t spilled any beans on the handset’s specifications, but nothing short of Snapdragon 855 and 12GB RAM is expected. We’ll bring more details about the device as and when they’re there, so keep watching the space.
