The police have registered a case against A. Saravanakumar, candidate of Makkal Needhi Maiam for the Erode Parliamentary constituency, and four other party cadre on the charge of violating the model code of conduct (MCC) while coming to file the nomination papers here on Tuesday.
Manoharan, Flying Squad Officer, Erode East constituency in his complaint to the Erode Taluk Police said that only four persons were allowed to accompany the candidate within 100 metre radius of the office of the Presiding Officer during filing of nomination.
On Tuesday, Saravanakumar along with other cadre gathered at the Collectorate entrance and attempted to enter the premises. Though the MCC was explained to the candidate, he entered into an altercation and entered the premises.
