The state government is trying every trick in the book to keep Hardik Patel from contesting the Lok Sabha polls. On Tuesday, the state sought adjournment of a case filed by Hardik for suspension of a two-year sentence for rioting. While Hardik had moved court in order to contest the elections, the government is seeking more time, amid strong opposition from Hardik's counsel IH Syed.

On Tuesday, the government submitted an additional affidavit opposing Hardik's plea, and sought adjournment since public prosecutor Mitesh Amin is occupied with a matter at another court. Additional public prosecutor Dharmesh Devnani appeared in court and requested the matter be posted for Wednesday.

Syed opposed it, saying the state is "killing time" to ensure Hardik can't approach a higher forum if the verdict is against him. But the court, after hearing both arguments, accepted the government's request.
