Noida/Ghaziabad: Nomination papers of more than half the candidates in the Ghaziabad parliamentary constituency were rejected by polling officials on Tuesday. Of 25 candidates, 13 were disqualified due to discrepancies or technical errors in nomination forms, said officials. In neighbouring Gautam Budh Nagar, eight out of 21 candidates were rejected.

Now, only 12 candidates from Ghaziabad and 13 from GB Nagar are left in the election fray, including BJP, Congress, BSP-SP alliance, some other regional parties and Independents. “Of the 12 candidates cleared for the seat, prominent names are General VK Singh (retd) of BJP, Dolly Sharma of Congress and SP-BSP alliance candidate Suresh Bansal,” an official said.

BN Singh, district magistrate and returning officer, said “For the GB Nagar seat, only 13 candidates were cleared, including BJP, Congress and BSP-SP alliance. Eight, including AAP, were rejected.”
