KARNAL: Twenty-four children escaped from the government-run Haryana Rajya Bal Bhawan in Madhuban late on Monday night and managed to reach the Gharaunda MLA's residence to allege exploitation at the hands of the shelter home administrator.
The incident has exposed the lapse in security of Bal Bhawan, which is facing staff crunch and other problems.
Confirming the incident, Gharaunda MLA Harvindar Kalyan said 24 children had come to his home and submitted a complaint about issues like clothes and food.
He said he had assured them of conducting proper investigation and sent them back to the Bal Bhawan the same night. He said a proper inquiry into the matter would ascertain the facts of the matter.
On Tuesday, the Karnal CJM, child welfare committee chairman Umesh Chanana and member of the Juvenile Justice Board Charan Singh reached the safe house to investigate the matter.
The gate of Bal Bhawan was kept closed at the time of investigation and media was not allowed to enter the premises. Later, Charan Singh said in preliminary investigation, some facts have emerged about children given punishment. A team has been formed to probe the case.
