Motorists have been flouting norms by driving on the wrong side of the road. This has led to traffic congestion here. Motorists were seen violating rules near Patlipada, Kasarvadavli and Anand Nagar area. The cops have also seized their vehicles. An FIR was registered against the accused at Kasarwadavli police station for rash driving under Section 279 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
“Traffic congestion has become the order of the day along the 11-km Ghodbunder Road stretch from Patlipada to Gaimukh due to the ongoing Metro work. So, if motorists drive on the wrong side, it only adds to the congestion. Also, this can pose as a danger to other motorists as there is a possibility of accidents. So, we are cracking the whip on such violators in order to avoid accidents from taking place,” said Prakash Patil, inspector with the traffic department.
The authorities said that usually in such cases they only issue e-challans. But now, in order to create fear among motorits, the traffic cops have started taking stern action against violators so that they follow traffic rules.
“We have appointed two officers and six constables, only to take action against violators. We have identified a few spots from where people try to use the opposite lane. We have booked the violators and also seized their vehicles,” added Patil.
