Three-year-old boy and seven-year-old girl died in incident

A day after a 34-year-old woman jumped from the third floor of her house with her two children, leaving both the kids dead, in east Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar, the police on Tuesday lodged a case of murder and suicide attempt against the woman.

The woman was seriously injured, but out of danger. She first threw her three-year-old son from the terrace and then took her seven-year-old daughter and jumped off the building.

DCP (East) Jasmeet Singh said that they have registered an FIR against the woman. She will be questioned after doctors declare her fit to give a statement.

During investigation, it was found that the woman had quarrelled with her husband over some domestic issue on Monday after which he left for work.

The husband owns an auto spare parts shop. He was informed by the police about the incident and he rushed to the hospital.

Woman being treated

“The reason will be known after questioning the woman. She is undergoing treatment at LNJP Hospital. Her husband told the police that she was depressed and undergoing treatment for the last few month. But he failed to produce doctor’s prescription or any medical history,” said Mr. Singh.

However, a woman who lives in the same building said. “The couple used to fight frequently over some issues. The woman had filed a police complaint on Saturday against her husband for not supporting her financially and abusing her mentally.” She added that after the incident, no neighbours came forward to accompany the injured to the hospital.

The husband is from Bihar while his wife was brought up in Mumbai.

The couple got married around 10 years ago. “We have not given a clean cheat to the husband yet. No note not has been left by the woman,” said Mr. Singh.

Mr. Singh added that a request has been sent to the Delhi government to constitute a panel of doctors to conduct autopsies.
