TIRUNELVELI
To give the electorate, especially the young first-time voters, the feel of actual polling booth, a model booth has been established at Vaeinthankulam new bus stand in Palayamkottai.
District Collector Shilpa Prabhakar Satish on Wednesday opened the model booth housing the Electronic Voting Machine synchronised with the VVPAT (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail) and explained the casting of vote.
She also patiently narrated for a while the functioning of the booth to the visitors and clarified the doubts they raised on the purpose of using VVPATs in the April 18 Lok Sabha polls.
“This is also an attempt to ensure cent per cent polling in the district. Since the young first-time voters should have an idea about the actual polling booth, we’ve established the model polling booth at new bus stand being used by a few thousand commuters every day. Moreover, the public, by visiting the model booth, can also understand the use of VVPAT to be used along with the EVM,” Ms. Shilpa said.
The Collector also switched on the giant LED screen kept at the main entrance of the bus terminus to explain in detail to the public on model code of conduct.
Sub-Collector, Tirunelveli, Manish Naranavare, Assistant Returning Officer and Corporation Commissioner, P. Vijayalakshmi, City Engineer, V. Narayanan Nair, and others were present.
