Woman's body with stab wounds found in Surat-Virar passenger train

MUMBAI: The body of an unidentified woman with stab wounds was found in a coach of the Surat-Virar passenger train on Wednesday morning.
The train (59038) had left Surat railway station at 4.15 am. When it reached Valsad railway station by around 6.44 am, an on-duty railway police constable, Sandeep Singh discovered the body in a coach near the engine. He informed his senior officials.
However, before the body could be moved out of the coach, the train which had halted for two minutes got its signal and left the station.
Railway police personnel travelled by road and the train was halted at Pardi railway station, around 12 km from Valsad.
The body had around six stab wounds on the chest, shoulder and abdomen. The name ‘Bachubhai Mashel’ was embossed on one of the hands of the victim. Police found a red colour bag containing Rs 2,000, in addition to a few Solapuri bedsheets, sweaters, a trouser and a t-shirt.
The body was taken out of the coach. The train continued its journey till Virar where a thorough examination of the coach was carried out.
Police said the victim had not been identified and closed circuit televisions along the route were being examined. The train had 11 halts between Surat to Valsad.
In December last year, a 40-year-old woman was found murdered in the ladies' coach of the Bhuj-Dadar Superfast Express. Robbery was believed to be the motive behind the killing.
