Highlighting a lapse in the examination system, the University of Kerala has reported the loss of answer scripts, around two weeks after Mahatma Gandhi University had suffered a similar ignominy.
While the actual number of documents that went missing is yet to be confirmed, claims are rife that around 45 answer scripts have been lost. The lost sheets were those of the examinations of various courses, including those offered by the National Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH), sources said, adding the sheets went missing at various intervals.
It is being alleged that all this was the handiwork of certain officials after the answer sheets were safely brought to the varsity following the examinations to help some students better their performances.
Dismissing the allegations as baseless, Pro-Vice-Chancellor P.P. Ajayakumar said that the answer scripts had gone missing while they were sent for valuation through courier or other means. He added that it was impossible to selectively remove certain sheets from bunches that had been well-secured. Besides, the results of the examinations had not been announced as yet, thereby negating the allegation that the loss was staged to enable certain students to improve their performances, he said.
Proposal
He also said that following an inquiry, it was proposed to conduct re-examinations in the cases in which the answer scripts could not be retrieved. A proposal regarding this had been submitted to the Syndicate, which would meet on Thursday.
