Tiger kills ‘mahua’ collector in Chanda
tnn | Mar 28, 2019, 04:00 ISTChandrapur: A tiger killed a mahua collector in the forest in Ekara village of south Brahmapuri range in Chandrapur on Wednesday afternoon. The incident has revived tiger terror in the area, after the capture of dreaded tigress A-1 in the first week of March.
Sources said that the victim, Jankiam Bhalavi (50) and his wife Anusaya, residents of Rampuri village, had gone 2km deep inside Ekara forest in the morning to collect mahua flowers. The tiger attacked Jankiram at around 7.30am and dragged him nearly 500 meters away.
When his wife, who was also collecting flowers some distance away, started looking for him, she found his discarded slippers, blood stains and signs of him being dragged away. As she started shouting for help, other mahua collectors also arrived to help her. People soon began searching for Jankiran and found a partially eaten body of a man in Arjuni beat.
People living in the forest area depend of collection of forest produce but are now terrified.
Forests in southern Bramhapuri area have good population of predators.
Forest department had captured tigress T-1, which had terrorized half a dozen villages in South Bramhapuri, from Bhuj forest on March 6. The fresh incident has terrified people in the area.
