MUZAFFARPUR: In a daring incident, the autorickshaw drivers attacked a home guard jawan and injured him for preventing them from driving their vehicles on wrong side of the road near Aghoria Bazar roundabout under the Kazi Mohammadpur police station area of the town Tuesday evening.
The jawan, identified as Anil Kumar, received head injuries. He is undergoing treatment at Sadar hospital. The incident took place around 6.30pm when Kumar along with ten other home guard jawans was on traffic duty near one of the busiest roundabouts in the town. Kumar stopped an auto driver coming from Ramdayalu Nagar side when he tried to cross the roundabout from wrong side.
“He stopped his vehicle on the middle of the road and called other auto drivers who attacked me with iron rods and other traditional weapons,” Kumar told this newspaper at the hospital on Wednesday.
He said the Kazi Mohammadpur police did not came to their rescue despite having been informed on their official cellphones. “My colleagues and head constable managed to flee but I was caught and beaten up mercilessly by the auto drivers,” he said.
Later, senior police officers swung into action only after a video of the incident went viral. In the video, two persons were seen thrashing Kumar.
SSP Manoj Kumar said it was a very serious matter. “No one will be spared as we have identified the culprits from the video footage. They will be arrested soon,” he said.
Meanwhile, the association of home guards threatened to go on strike if the culprits were not arrested soon. Their association president Arvind Kumar demanded from the SSP to ensure the safety of jawans. “I met the SSP and demanded the culprits’ arrest at the earliest. If it is not done, we will go on strike,” he said.
