Kollam District Congress Committee president Bindu Krishna has landed in the soup over a facebook post in which she is seen sharing a meal with the family of a 15-year-old girl who was abducted from Oachira.
On Saturday night, she was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for revealing the identity of the minor through social media.
“We have registered a case against her based on a complaint filed by an advocate. According to the Act, no reports in any media shall disclose the identity of a child. She had posted some pictures with the girl’s family,” said an official.
Takes part in protests
Ms. Bindu Krishna has been in the forefront of protests demanding justice for the girl’s family.
She sat on a 24-hour hunger strike in front of the girl’s house on Friday and the protest was inaugurated by Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala.
On March 21 and 22, she had posted a number of pictures and one shows her having food with the girl’s family along with a caption clearly stating it. Later, some other pictures in which she and Mr. Chennithala are seen with the family members also surfaced, all posted on the same page.
Deleted
All the pictures were deleted from the account later.
She has been booked under Section 23 the POCSO Act. Under this, violators are liable to be punished with imprisonment for a period which will not be less than six months and may extend to one year or fine or both.
