Bus owners seek dues pending since 2009 polls
Debjani Chakraborty | TNN | Mar 26, 2019, 05:02 ISTRanchi: Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the Jharkhand Bus Owners Association (JBOA) on Monday aired their concerns of pending dues for vehicles used for polling duties since 2009. While the Ranchi district administration is expected to start sending formal requisition to respective commercial vehicle owners soon, non-payment of dues have left them worried.
JBOA general secretary Kishore Mantri said: “Dues are yet to be paid in almost every district. The problem is worst in Khunti, where payments amounting to anywhere between Rs 7 and 10 lakhs are pending since 2009 general election and other subsequent services offered to the administration in the polls thereafter. We hope the administration clears them while they send us the requisition for the vehicles that they need for the coming polls.”
Mantri said that the procedure for acquiring the vehicles has begun. “All the district administrations have asked us to share details of our log books, but haven’t notified the actual requirement yet. While the unpaid dues continue to remain a concern, there isn’t much that we can do as one is bound to give his/her vehicle on rent if asked by the administration,” he added.
However, Jharkhand Motor Federation (JMF), an association of small and large goods vehicles in the state, said they don’t have issues of pending dues. JMF secretary Sunil Singh Chauhan said, “Only those vehicle owners who couldn’t furnish proper documents to claim the dues are facing problems in our association, but most have received their dues. Each vehicle owner must maintain the log books to claim payments from the administration.”
Ranchi district transport officer Sanjeev Kumar said they are in the process of preparing the vehicle requisition but added that he isn’t aware about pending dues raised by bus owners in the as he wasn’t posted here during the earlier polls.
“We are in the process of determining the required number of vehicles for the polling days. The list should be ready by the end of this week and the commercial vehicle owners will be notified accordingly,” he said.
