BJP questions Rahul Gandhi's source of income
Clara Lewis | TNN | Updated: Mar 25, 2019, 23:06 ISTMUMBAI: The Bharatiya Janata Party repeated its demand that Congress president Rahul Gandhi disclose his source of income.
At a press conference at the BJP state headquarters in Mumbai, BJP spokesperson said the party had decided to raise the issue because of Gandhi’s “Chowkidar Chor Hai” tirade.
“We want to expose the real chor,” he said when asked why the long delay in raising the issue. Bhandari said the party has not filed any formal complaint but if Gandhi did not disclose his source of income it would do so.
Bhandari said from 2004 to 2014 Gandhi's income had increased from Rs 55 lakh to Rs 9 crore as disclosed in his election affidavits.
Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi rented out their farmhouse to FTIL and this was done after FTIL founded National Spot Exchange was issued a show-cause notice. He alleged that the Congress during its rule granted several concessions to FTIL. The rent was nine times the cost of the farm house, he alleged.
In another instance, he said Gandhi had purchased two properties from Unitech Limited, one for Rs 1.44 crore and another for Rs 5.36 crore but paid only Rs 4 crore.
The Congress president must answer why he did not pay the full amount, said the BJP spokesperson.
Unitech Limited, Bhandari said, is an accused in the 2G scam and these properties were purchased a day before the Supreme Court had directed the government to file its reply on the CAG report.
