'Crazy down there': Shooting reported at shopping centre in city's outer east

Shots have reportedly been fired near a shopping centre in Pakenham, south-east of Melbourne.

Police have confirmed that a triple zero call was made and they are at the scene at Heritage Springs Shopping Centre.

There have also been multiple unconfirmed reports across social media of a man or group of men shooting in the area.

A spokeswoman from Victoria Police said officers were searching the area around Livingston Boulevard after unconfirmed reports of a man with a firearm.

"The area is being searched, no injuries have been reported and police have closed Heritage Boulevard as a precaution," she said.

More than a dozen cars are parked around the shopping centre and Special Operations Group officers were seen at the shopping centre earlier in the evening.

Several officers were walking in a line down Heritage Boulevard with torches searching the ground. Officers are also interviewing several people who saw the aftermath of the event.

Police tape is blocking the centre's exits and Heritage Boulevard remains closed.

'Cops are showing up in droves. The police dogs have just shown up and looks like special forces... it's crazy down there," a woman wrote on social media.

Another woman told The Age that her husband was not allowed to leave his car, which was parked at the Coles at Heritage Springs shopping centre car park.

'My husband arrived at Coles and police arrived and everyone at Coles was told to stay inside as a gunman was in the area," she said.

"...Roads were blocked off and police were everywhere. It was like a movie."

She said her husband had now been allowed to leave the car park.

A kindergarten and primary school are also on the road where police believe the shooter was seen earlier on Monday afternoon.
