Ludhiana: Stray cattle have claimed the lives of two motorists in separate accidents in the city.

The first incident took place early on March 22. Akashdeep Singh, 20, a labourer and resident of Umedpur village, had gone to a nearby village to celebrate Holi with his friends. He was on way home when his motorcycle collided with stray cattle near Nanadpur village. Passersby took a grievously injured Akashdeep to a nearby hospital.

Akashdeep’s father Baldev Singh said, “My son was undergoing treatment at a hospital near Sherpur Chowk. As his condition worsened, doctors referred him to PIG, Chandigarh, where he succumbed late on March 23 night.”

The second accident took place hours later.

Hardeep Singh, 32, a driver at a Sahnewal factory, was returning home from his workplace when his bike ran into stray cattle near Lakhowal-Kohara road in Koomkalan around 9.30pm on March 22.

Hardeep’s father Surjeet Singh said, “Onlookers took him to a nearby hospital, which referred him to a private hospital on Brown Road. But he could not be saved and breathed his last around 11.30pm on March 23.”

In both the cases, police have initiated proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC.
