Cape Town - Controversy reigned in the Indian Premier League on Monday when Ravichandran Ashwin of the Kings Punjab XI ran-out Jos Buttler of the Rajastan Royals as he backed up at a crucial part in the run chase.
After Chris Gayle has blasted Kings Punjab to 184/4, Buttler was leading the Royals in pursuit of the total. While Buttler was backing up at the non-strikers end, Ashwin stopped in his delivery stride and whipped off the bails.
The decision was sent to the third umpire with Buttler found well out of his crease.

Twitter went into overdrive questioning Ashwin's decision to affect the "Mankad" run-out whiler others believed the bowler had done nothing wrong.
The more you see this the worse it looks .. @josbuttler is still in his crease as @ashwinravi99 is in his delivery position .. Warning or not this is very very Poor from the Skipper ... in time I think he will look back and regret this .. #IPl https://t.co/LcRI12x2EZ

Law 41.16 a batsmen at non strikers end should not leave his ground UNTIL the bowler has released the ball!

SO OUT! Lesson.. batsmen watch the bowlers release the ball! #easy #SelectDugout
All for Mankading but what Ashwin has done is wrong. He paused and waited for Buttler to leave crease which goes against the spirit of the game.

Dickwella in 2017 was fined for a similar stumping attempt. He waited for batsman to leave the crease before breaking stumps. #RRvKXIP
It’s within the laws of the game but Jos Butler should have been warned by Ashwin before that. Very Surprised ! Remember Ashwin doing the same in an international game where Sehwag withdrew the appeal.

Buttler was still in his crease when Ashwin was in his delivery stride! He wasn’t trying to gain an advantage! He was literally walking in with the bowler... #Ashwin #IPL #Buttler
